Saturday morning, cold and bad weather have welcomed the athletes arrived in Malcesine to participate in the third edition of the Lake Garda Mountain Race, the international mountain race organised by US Mount Baldo asd.

Despite the weather, the LGMR (acronym with which it is now known), has seen growing for the third consecutive year the number of participants. About 200 people climbed the slopes of Monte Baldo and among them 50 foreigners from eight different nations: Norway, England, Germany,  Austria, Switzerland, Israel and United States.

Fog, high humidity and the dangerous slippery terrain caused by the rain that has fallen during the whole week, forced the organisers to cancel the arrival at 2000 metres, the Ultimate Running Class, the Queen class: “The risk of dangerous falls and injuries was to big. The athletes have immediately understood and shared the decision. As a result, the athletes enrolled in 2000 m have been included in 1700 m, the Running Class, creating this way a single competitive category, “says Simone Montini, who was in charge of the path. The start was at 10 a.m. on the shores of Lake Garda with the charming background of the castle of Malcesine.

First to arrive at 1700 metres was the Norwegian champion Thorbjorn Ludvigsen, born in 1988 , who covered 9.5 km in 01:08 ‘ 21 ”. The previous record of the Running Class, registered in 2011 by Maximilian Chenelli (1:16 ‘ 09 ”) was broken. One minute after it arrived Philip Goetsch  from SC. Tirol Bogn From Nia in 01:09 ‘ 33″. The third arrived was Elijah Costa who finished the race in 1:14 ‘ 04 “.
The first of the ladies who reached the finish line was Lara Bonora already winner in  2011 and the second in 2012 in the Ultimate Running Class. She arrived at the top in 1:34 ‘ 33 ” breaking the record of the last year of the Running Class. Second, separated by just 29 seconds, it was Contrini Elena, third to 2000 metres in 2012. The third who has reached the top was Lisa Borzani in 1:39’49″. The flying priest don Franco Toresani has arrived 5th. Tassani-Prell  arrived on the 8th position meanwhile Campestrin 10th. Valentina Manzana, the home champion, because of an injury, she could’t arrive on the podium to confirm the third time on a road her position at 1700m.

“As shown by the records set this year and confirming the trend that we have seen even last year, this race is in constant increase of the high level of participants. The LGMR has made a name in the circuit of mountain races and attracts more and more athletes and, above all, quality. Campestrin, Don Torresani, Ludvigsen, Tassani-Prell, Bonora, Goetsch, Manzi and Facchinelli (registrated but not present at the starting line) all are champions of the highest quality.
